Internship Overview

Alpha Breast Cancer Support Services (ABCSS) is seeking a dynamic Intern to spearhead the project management support for the annual 5K walk, fundraising events, and strategic initiatives to spread awareness of how women can detect, treat and fight breast cancer. In this role our intern will collaborate with the executive leadership team, our Ethiopian and Eritrean communities, and our sponsors in order to raise awareness and educate our communities about early detection efforts and plan the annual 5K Walk. Project Management Intern – Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement standardized project management (PM) methodologies, frameworks, processes, best practices, and tools to facilitate a consistent quality of delivery

  • Conduct market research to determine strategic goals and benchmarks

  • Manage the tasks of the ABCSS leadership, event coordinators, and volunteers

  • Support monthly Missaley meetings/events

  • Obtain sponsorships and matching gift donations

  • Schedule guest speakers for the annual 5K Walk

  • Reserve the park/trail/shelter for the annual 5K Walk

  • Facilitate discussions with 2021 participants and volunteers to obtain feedback and identify opportunities for improvement

  • Implement inventory management techniques and determine what needs to be purchased for the 5K Walk (race clock, signs, etc.)

  • Create a monthly newsletter to engage participants

  • Obtain donations for the raffle prize

  • Prepare ABCSS marketing material

  • Maintain ABCSS social media accounts

  • Prepare content for the ABCSS website (abcsr.org) 

  • Update Eventbrite website

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Eligible candidates must meet the following criteria:

    • Part-time or full-time students who have completed 24+ credit hours (rising sophomores/juniors/seniors) and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university

    • Part-time or full-time students enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and maturity in the workplace

  • Effective communicator both written and verbally

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Majoring in Project Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Public Health, or related discipline

  • Prior event planning experience

  • Able to speak Amharic or Tigrinya

Duration and Location

  • 13 weeks starting on July 5, 2022 through October 7, 2022

  • Part time (10 hours a week)

  • 95% Remote

  • 5% Travel (Occasional travel to Manassas, VA)
